Steps to Get Your Missouri Salesperson License

The Missouri Real Estate Commission (MREC) requires completion of the following steps in order to receive a Real Estate Salesperson License in Missouri.

  1. Complete 72 Hours of Approved Education
  2. Pass the Course Final Exam
  3. Pass the Missouri Real Estate Exam
  4. Submit Fingerprints and a Background Check
  5. Complete the Licensing Application

Steps to Become a Real Estate Agent in Missouri

Prerequisites

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • Complete 72 Hours of Approved Education

  • Pass the Course Final Exam

    After completing the 72 hours of coursework, you must meet MREC's requirement of passing the course final exam with a score of 75% or higher.

  • Pass the Missouri Real Estate Exam

    Next, you must take and pass both the state and national portions of the Missouri Salesperson License Exam at a PSI Testing Center. The exam consists of the following two sections and has a total of 140 questions.

    National Section

    The National Portion of the exam contains 100 questions. Students must correctly answer a minimum of 70 out of 100 questions or a score of 70% or higher to pass this portion.

    State Section

    The State Section of the exam contains 40 questions. Students must correctly answer a minimum of 30 out of 40 questions or a score of 75% or higher to pass this portion.

  • Submit Fingerprints and Complete a Background Check

    Once you have completed and passed your final exam, you will need to submit fingerprints by using IDEMIA (IdentoGO) and complete a Missouri state and federal criminal history background check.

  • Complete the License Application

    Finally, you will need to apply for a license with the Missouri Division of Professional Registration (MDPR). The MDPR is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Missouri Real Estate License Reciprocity

Missouri offers full license reciprocity with all 50 states and provides lesser requirements for licensed attorneys. Below are the requirements for current, out-of-state real estate licensees and attorneys.

Active, Out-of-State Real Estate Licensees

Individuals with an active real estate license in another jurisdiction must complete the following steps to become a real estate salesperson.

  • Complete the 24-Hour MREP Course

    Out-of-state licensees must first complete the 23-Hour Missouri Real Estate Practice Course (MREP). However, active licensees are not required to take the 48-Hour Pre-License Course

  • Pass the Missouri Real Estate Exam

    Out-of-State Licensees are required to pass both sections of the MO real estate exam.

  • Submit an Application

    Licensees must complete the application within six months of passing their exam. Additionally, out-of-state licensees must submit a current license certification from the state's real estate commission from which they are currently licensed.

Licensed Attorneys

Attorneys must complete the following steps to get their license.

  • Pass the Missouri Real Estate Exam

    Attorneys are required to pass the national and state sections of the licensing exam.

  • Submit an Application

    Attorneys must complete the application within six months of passing their exam and present a copy of their active BAR card with the application.
